Serena Williams is well-known for being an extremely smart businesswoman on top of being one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Serena and her daughter Olympia joined Natalie Portman in becoming the proud owners of a new team in Los Angeles that will play the National Women’s Soccer League.

Serena has always expressed her interest in other sports and she was fascinated but the fact that women’s soccer has been becoming more and more popular in the US. The former world no.1 is also residing in the greater Los Angeles as she loves the vibe of the city. Therefore, it looked almost natural for Serena to invest in a women’s soccer team based in her area.

During a recent video-chat with Natalie Portman, Serena commented:

“I think that’s really cool for athletes to own something. It’s interesting, because you have a different type of pride when you’re there and you’re playing for something that you own. It’s not really done in tennis, so it’s really interesting to have an opportunity to do that in a different sport. It would be a wonderful feeling to have that. You want to play better, to play harder – not only are you playing me, you’re playing me in my stadium.”

Serena Williams and the US Open

Serena is currently preparing for the US Open. The American legend is only 1 slam shy from matching Margaret Court’s record of 24 slams. Williams was extremely close to conquering that elusive major as she reached a slam final for 4 times after her pregnancy. The 23-time slam champion has been training in her mansion in Beverly Hills where she has also a home court that has been resurfaced with the same material used by the upcoming US Open
