Novak Djokovic has often stated is aversion about playing the upcoming US Open with the rules that were initially set by the organization. Djokovic was particularly unhappy for the fact that only one person was allowed to follow the players in New York. In addition, the Serbian sensation was also not elated with the fact that players and teams were required to stay “reclused” in designated hotels.
Fortunately, things changed and USTA modified some of the original rules as follows:
• Players may receive up to three (3) guest credentials for the BJKNTC grounds. One guest can be designated to the Arthur Ashe competition areas and transportation. Additional guests will be allowed transportation when space is available. All guests must be staying at one of the two official hotels at which availability is limited.
• Every player is required to sign the 2020 US Open Player Legal Consent Waiver and 2020 Authorization for Release of Health Information before player is allowed to compete. The Waiver and Release are now part of the Online Credential System and can be completed at the same time as the credential.
USTA also outlined the guidelines about testing, social distancing and wearing the masks as follows:
“All players and guests will be tested upon arrival to the player hotel. Players and guests must remain in their hotel rooms until receiving confirmation of a negative test result. After one negative test, players and guests will have access to the BJKNTC. A second test will be administered 48 hours after arrival Regular testing will occur during the week subject to the USO Medical doctors & local public health guidelines.
Daily temperature check and symptom questionnaire must be completed before entering the site. Masks must be worn on-site at ALL times unless practicing, competing on-court, or during fitness training sessions.
Social distancing protocols to be applicable in common areas on-site. All testina protocols subject to chanae based on the auidelines from USO Medical team and local public health auideline.”
Djokovic training on hard courts
Novak used to train on clay for the biggest part of the lockdown sending the signal that he was focussed to play only he European swing on clay courts. However, he has recently changed to practice on hard courts probably getting ready to compete at the US Open. The world no.1 is currently in Marbella where he is spending some precious time with his family before plausibly heading to New York if the US Open will be played.
