Serena and Venus Williams, Federer, Nadal the inspiration for Coco Gauff. SAYS FATHER

Why Coco Gauff should follow the explamples of Serena, Venus, Federer and Nadal according to her father Corey

Coco Gauff and Serena Williams

Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal are tennis legends that have inspired many generations, including some upcoming players such as Coco Gauff.

Coco has the luxury of having her family very much involved in her development. With the support of her his wife Candy, her father Corey left his job to be Coco’s coach on a permanent basis and that looked to be the winning formula.

During a recent documentary called “Raising a Champion”, Corey explained that being willing to accept sacrifices also as a family is essential to be successful.

“The journey is not going to come without sacrifice. I asked my wife to understand that this is what has to be done. Its been done by others. You see an example of that with the Williams, Federer, Nadal whose uncle was highly involved in his career. It’s the same with Coco’s,” he commented.

Corey’s parallel with Serena and Venus Williams was spot on as both were coached for long by their father Richard and Coco is following a similar path. Gauff is also widely considered as the “heir” of Serena not only for her tennis but also for her off-court activism in defending the rights of the people of color.

Coco Gauff, Lexington and the US Open

Coco will follow her childhood idols (Serena and Venus) in playing the WTA event in Lexington (10th of August) to get ready for the US Open. The young American may also compete at the Western and Southern Open that this year will be staged in New York just before the American major. Coco has already reached the 2nd week in 2 slams in Wimbledon (2019) and at the Ausralian Open (2020). She will try to go for more at this US Open.
