US OPEN: Thiem, Sinner willing to play. Wawrinka focused on the French Open

The US Open is meant to be played in the next 5 weeks, and there are some still doubts if some players are willing to participate.

The major will be played without fans in a nation that is the actual epicenter of the Coronavirus. However, the slam will be staged in the state of New York, where the virus is very much under control. Besides the crucial issues about safety, there are also some other pressing problems that players need to face. Some are not elated with the fact that their movements need to be restricted to premises designated by the organization. However, one of the most important issues is if players need to be quarantined when back from New York to Europe.

Thiem and Sinner

Dominic Thiem and Jannik Sinner seem to be quite happy to compete in North America with the right conditions. The Austrian confirmed that he has planned to go. Also, the plausible absence of top layers such as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer (to name some) could be a huge incentive for him to finally conquer his first major.

“I hope the next is the US Open. I am still not sure a 100% that it is going to happen. But the plan is to go there in the middle of August and if this is happening, it means that the normal Tour is coming back which is what we are all hoping for,” commented Dominic.

Jannik said that he wants to play the US Open but it depends not only on the traveling restriction but also if quarantine will be required for players when back to Europe. However, the upcoming Italian revealed that if he stays in Europe, he will play a series of Challengers to get ready for the Roland Garros.

It’s interesting to notice that, according to reports, a quarantine should not be required for athletes that will play the Madrid Mutua Open.

Wawrinka

Stan has recently posted a series of pictures of him back training on clay with the tennis balls that will be used at the upcoming Roland Garros. This has obviously prompted allegations that he will be focussed on the European clay-court season as the dirt is his favorite surface and it is less taxing on his body.
