Djokovic wins the 2013 Australian Open!

Great Nole! The Serb confirms once again to be the best tennis player in the world to down Murray in 4 sets. This is Djokovic 6th slam (the 4th in Melbourne).

1st Set Murray 7-6 (2)

Tricky start for the Serb as Murray looked to be as strong as ever. It was clear from the very beginning that it would have been a battle of nerves between two of the best baseliners and retrivers in the circuit. No breaks and straight to the tiebreak where Murray played without committing any mistake.

The biggest problem the Serb had to face in the opener was his incredible number of unforced errors (25). OK, he tried to be aggressive, but that was far to hig for a single set.

2nd Set Djokovic 7-6 (3)

The Serb had to hang tough as there were no clear breaches in Andy’s game. Nole improved especially his unforced errors as he managed to go down to 15 from the 25 committed in the 1st set.

Eventually the pair went to the tiebreak once again without any break in the set, but now it was Nole to win it at 3.

3rd Set Djokovic 6-3

Something changed with Nole winning the second set. In fact, in the first 2 sets it seemed as Murray had always the upper hand he he was getting into Nole’s head. But as soon as the world no.1 won the second set he started to beleive more in his chances and Murray started to have some doubts.

On top of it the Scott’s fitness was about to deteriorate a bit, and if you are not 100% against Nole… you are doomed. Andy asked for a treatment to his foot (blisters) after the second set.

Eventually we had the first break after 2 hours and 53 minutes … and that was for Nole that than he managed to hold and win 6-3.

4th Set Djokovic 6-2

After losing the 3rd set Andy imploded to concede 2 two breaks in the 4th and lose 6-2…. not much to say here as it was game over almost since the beginning of the set.

Great stuff from the world no.1!

From Nole

“Winning it three  in a row, it’s incredible,” said Djokovic. “It’s very thrilling. I’m full of joy right now. It’s going to give me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season, that’s for sure.”

From Andy

“I have to try and look at the positives of the last few months, and I think I’m going the right direction,” said Murray. “This is the first time I’ve beaten Rogerin a Grand Slam over five sets. I think I dealt with the situations and the ebbs and flows in that match well.”

“I know that no one’s ever won a Grand Slam, the immediate one after winning their first one. It’s not the easiest thing to do and I got extremely close.

“The past few months have been the best tennis of my life. I made the Wimbledonfinal, won the Olympics and won the US Open. I was close here as well.”
