Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina are currently in Berlin where they have been playing a local exhibition. Both are not sure about their participation to the upcoming US Open.
Kvitova has recently expressed her feeling about playing the American major (31st August) during this pandemic. During a recent interview with the BBC 5 Live, she commented:
“I know a few players will definitely not go if the restrictions are like they are now.”
The world no.12 also revealed that she is not 100% happy with playing without fans at the major, however, if things are safe and under control, she may give it a shot.
“Playing without the fans in Grand Slams, I can’t really see it,” she said.
“If that happens and everything is OK I will go for sure to compete but there’s still a chance I will not go. I will decide when I know everything,” Petra commented.
Svitolina and the US Open
Elina didn’t sound also very enthusiastic about playing the slam to release the following comments:
“It’s great that everything is coming back, of course, but there are a lot of questions. I think that it’s not just me. At the moment, the conditions that we are offered are not ideal, because there will be many tests, plus isolation, it’s not clear what will happen with the points, with the money. It’s very difficult to say something.”
