Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka share a special relationship. The Swiss players have won multiple slams and they have always stated that conquering the gold medal in Bejing in doubles together was a very special moment of their career.
During a recent interview with l’Illustre, Stan elaborated about his career and his relationship with Roger Federer. Wawrinka has been frequently asked about what means playing during Federer’s career. In the past, many speculated that it was tough for him to play in the “shadow” of the former world no.1, but Wawrinka has always rejected this statement.
Stan revealed that he feels lucky to have shared the court with Roger to say
“He [Federer] taught me a lot. When I got on the tour, he was already number one in the world and had won several Grand Slams. I have always enjoyed learning from others.”
Then he added that eventually, Roger was like a big brother for him.
“I owe a lot of my Grand Slam titles to the “Big Three.” I’m certainly the player who trained the most with them. I watched them, I watched a lot of their games. At the start of my career, I was able to count on Roger’s advice before I faced the best. He was like a big brother on the circuit,” he added.
