Serena Williams has 1 big target right now: conquering her elusive 24th slam and match Margaret Court’s record.
The tennis legend has been training hard in her mansion in Beverly Hills where she has resurfaced the home court with the same surface as the US Open. The former world no.1 also had the opportunity to practice with a top 10 ATP player (Matteo Berrettini) when she spent some time in Florida. In addition, Serena has equipped her house with all sorts of equipment to keep her great fitness.
Serena Williams’ plans according to her coach
During a recent interview with UbiTennis, Serena’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou talked about the plans of the American. Serena will definitely aim at competing at the US Open; however, there are some doubts if quarantine is needed when back from the US to Europe. That would change the rule of the game as it would be extremely difficult for the players to train after the US Open as the European swing is scheduled to resume soon after the American major.
“From what I know there is no quarantine from Europe to the US because the situation is much better now. The plan is to go to New York with Serena and then come back to Europe. But I wanna make sure that we both will be on time in Europe. So this quarantine on the way back from the US to Europe is a serious question we need answers to because in order to take any kind of decision we need the right information,” Patrick commented.
Talking about Serena’s fitness, the Frenchman explains how the 23-time slam champion has been training.
“Serena is able to win with all the best players and she can lose also if she is not able to play her best tennis against whoever is one the other side of the court. She is filming her practice and sending me videos and then we chat. She has been practicing well. Serena was able to do fitness when she was at home, but she was confined and, then she started tennis three weeks ago. Serena even played with Berrettini when he was in Florida. So she is in good shape.” he added.
