Dayana Yastremska had probably her best intentions when she wanted to promote a message of equality. However, that didn’t really go well. The Ukrainian star posted a picture of her painted half-black trying to stress the message that everyone is the same. However, she was definitely unaware that a painted “blackface” is commonly regarded as offensive since it used to contribute to the spread of racial stereotypes in the past.
As soon as she was slammed on social media, Dayana immediately deleted the posts, but that was obviously too late. Of course, she didn’t have bad intentions.

Yastremska is what happens when a person low on understanding takes her cues from a climate of woke corporatism/celebs… the most attention grabbing (& in this case offensive) symbolism, that's the least impactful change-wise. She's a symptom of a far greater underlying malaise
