Both Zverev and Kyrgios withdraw from the exhibition in Berlin

These are the reasons why Nicka and Sascha won't compete in Germany

Kyrgios Zverev

Alexander Zverev and Nick Kyrgios retire from Berlin after a couple of rather rough weeks. The Australian was extremely aggressive in slamming Sascha after the German participated in the Adria Tour and he later didn’t maintain the promise to self-isolate.

Sascha committed PR suicide when he was caught partying in a crowded bar with some models and his girlfriend in the South of France instead of remaining self-isolated as promised. Nick publicly slammed the German calling him “selfish and a “goose waving his arms.”

Both Sascha and Nick were meant to play an exhibition in Berlin next week with also the presence of Dominic Thiem (that was also attacked by Nick recently). However, the German decided not to play without adding any justification probably in retaliation of the critics raised by the tournament director. The good news for Zverev is that he is starting a trialing period with David Ferrer that could become his new coach.

It also doesn’t come as a surprise the defection of Kyrgios that has criticized all the exhibitions played during the pandemic. Furthermore, he could have found himself in a rather embarrassing situation when facing either Sascha or Dominid in Germany.

This is an extract of the official communication from the tournament.

“Alexander Zverev gave no further justification for his waiver in Berlin. “His management has informed us that he does not want to play a tournament for the time being and therefore will not travel to Berlin,” explains organizer Edwin Weindorfer. “We are disappointed with this decision, because from our point of view it would have been a good chance for Alexander Zverev to focus on his tennis again in front of an audience in Berlin after the turbulence.”

Talking about Kyrgios:

“The coronavirus crisis has intensified again in Australia. When we hired Nick Kyrgios for Berlin in May, this development was not to be expected. As can be said at all, in the time shaped by Corona, there are always problems with the organization of tennis tournaments that have never been known before.”
