The Australian doesn't sound so happy to go and compete in New York

Australian rising star Alexei Popyrin doesn’t seem to be so thrilled about playing the US Open. The 20-year-old doesn’t feel safe going in North America. However, he understands that it would be important to add some more points to his rankings and therefore he is thinking about not playing the major if they are going to freeze the rankings. That is a decision that some other players may undertake.

“Right now there are talks regarding the US Open but I really don’t want to go with the situation in America right now. But we have to see if we would be forced to go because of ranking points. If the ranking points won’t be frozen then most of us would be forced to go play cause our ranking will drop and we wouldn’t have any say in it. If the rankings are frozen then I am staying here, I will stay in Europe where it’s safe with my family.”

Alexei is currently residing in the South of France at the Mouratoglou’s Academy where he has been playing the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. A format that was conceived by his own father with the Frenchman.
