Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic may all skip the upcoming US Open.
While Federer has already announced that he will not be back to competitions in 2020 after he had a second procedure to his knee, both Nadal and Djokovic have expressed multiple times not to be thrilled about playing the US Open.
The big question is if a slam tat is played behind closed doors and without the presence of the Big3 has the right relevance.
According to Sam Querrey, a possible absence of the Big3 will not be a major issue. Talking to Forbes, the American commented:
“If we don’t have that for one U.S. Open, it’s not going to make or break anything. It’s more important for the game of tennis that we play the U.S. Open and get it back going than it is for those two guys to play the event,” said the former world no.11.
“It does open up the draw for someone else to win it. I would love to win it. But tennis has been great because of Roger, Rafa, Novak for 15 straight years. I think dominance by one person or a small group of people in any one sport is really good for that sport,” he added.
