Why Coco Gauff can change the world. NAVRATILOVA

Martina explains why and how Coco can have a great impact on the world.

Coco Gauff praised by Navratilova

Coco Gauff is 16-year-old and it seems that despite her young age, the world has high hopes about the impact she can have in tennis and beyond. The American sensation impressed the fans when last year she reached the second week in Wimbledon after beating on the way (1st round) her childhood idol Venus Williams.

However, Coco has been hitting the headlines not only for being a tennis prodigy but also for her activism. The teenager was extremely active after the death of George Floyd supporting the #blacklivesmatter movement.

Coco was just amazing when she gave a rather poised speech in Del Ray (Florida) saying

“I’m fighting for the future for my brothers. I’m fighting for the future for my future kids. I’m fighting for the future for my future grandchildren. So, we must change now, and I promise to always use my platform to spread vital information.”

Martina Navratilova

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has been herself a huge inspiration not only for her incredible success on the tennis court but also for defending some other important causes (eg. LGBT)

Talking to BBC Radio 4’s Today, Martina shared her admiration and hope for Coco.

“She [Coco] is just so poised on and off the court. She was just really brought up with great qualities and it shows how she plays, it shows how she’s active now politically.

I smile so much when I see the reach that she already has now and she will have in the future.“She’s one of those people that can change the world for the better and she seems to want to do that.

I think the way things are going now, with some countries making great progress and some countries, like ours here in America, in my opinion, going backward in time, I think it’s essential that people get involved.”
