Tsitsipas ready for greatness according to Serena Williams’ coach Mouratoglou

Stefanos is close to having his breakthrough

Stefanos Tsitsipas is getting closer and closer to the level of the Big3. The Greek ace won the ATP Finals last year, and he was a bit rushed in saying that he was close to winning a slam. Later, Tsitsipas won just 1 match at the Australian Open as he lost in the 3rd round to Milos Raonic after having a free pass in the second round following the withdrawal of Philipp Kohlschreiber. Stefanos admitted that he was putting too much pressure on him and he was back to business in February when he won Marseille and he reached the final in Dubai.

Tsitsipas Marseille and DubaiStefanos is currently playing the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in the South of France where he is leading the competition playing rather good tennis. The tournament is organized by Patrick Mouratoglou that is also Serena Williams’ coach. During a recent interview with Essentially Sport, Patrick explained why he thinks that Stefanos can have a breakthrough anytime.

“I think he might make his breakthrough anytime. He’s won, as you mentioned, the ATP finals, he’s reached also the semifinals of the Australian Open, he’s beaten all the top players at least once, beaten Nadal on clay in Madrid, beaten Djokovic in the Masters 1000, Roger in a grand slam, he’s not far. But on the other hand, winning a grand slam today, against the greatest players of all time is the most challenging in tennis history.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas Melbourne 2019Stefanos had an exceptional run at the Australian Open in 2019 after he stunned an in-form Roger Federer in the 4th round. That year, the world no.6 reached the semifinal before being overwhelmed by Rafael Nadal. However, he also managed to beat the Spaniard on clay later in the year in Madrid.

Mouratoglou commented: When he lost to Rafa in the semifinals of the Australian Open, he had beaten roger, and to win the tournament he would’ve had to beat Rafa in the semis and then Novak in the finals. How challenging is that? It’s incredible. But I’m sure he’s going to make it at some point because he really wants it deep inside himself and he really has the potential to do it. So, it’s going to happen.
