Djokovic had the best intentions for the Adria Tour, say Vekic, Pospisil

Donna Vekic and Vasek Pospisil are the latest sports personalities to support Novak Djokovic after the disastrous Adria Tour. The world no.1 was extremely happy and emotional when hosting the event in Belgrade and Zadar, but things got south after some tennis players and members of the teams tested positive to the Coronavirus. Novak was heavily criticized for the lack of social distancing.

The world no.1 apologizes for what has happened and he had the back of the likes of Boris Becker, Dejan Stankovic, Nemanja Matić, Dayana Yastremska, Janko Tipsarevic and Olga Danilovic.

Talking to Radio-Canada Sports, Pospisil commented

“I think Novak’s heart was in the right place and his intentions were good, but it must be admitted that organizing tournaments so quickly was a mistake.

We have exchanged messages in the past few hours and I feel that he is sincerely sorry for what happened. It is a real shame. It was a charity event and he wanted to bring tennis back to the countries of the former Yugoslavia. It was a great project, but I think he learned the lesson.”

Donna Vekic also participated in the Adria Tour. Fortunately, she tested negative, and later she expressed her support for Novak as follows.

“I feel really, really bad for Novak, because his idea was amazing. It’s tough to judge because the situation in Serbia and Croatia is like people are behaving without any restrictions, not just at the tennis.

If you go out to the restaurants and the clubs, you will see they are packed like person on person. I feel so, so bad for Novak, and honestly to bring so many top players to Croatia, I was like, ‘Wow, you are doing a really good job, and it was all for charity.’ So I feel really bad it ended like this. He only had good intentions.”
