Novak Djokovic and Boris Becker are dear friends. Many were shocked and doubtful when the Serbian champion hired the German for the 2014 season, but eventually, that partnership was hugely successful since together they won 6 majors and 14 ATP1000. Things got tense in 2016 as Novak brought in the team the controversial love guru Pepe Imaz and therefore Boris and Novak split in December.

Fortunately, Djokovic and Becker remained in great terms and the German was more than ready to understand and defend Novak for what has happened during the Adria Tour. It’s well-known that the world no.1 had his best intentions in organizing the exhibition in the Balkans, however, things got sideways after some players and team members tested positive to the Covid-19.

Videos and pictures of gatherings and parties staged in a complete absence of social distancing stunned the world and Djokovic came under fire because he was the promoter of the tour.

Djokovic criticized unfairly

“I want to defend Novak a little. I think the criticism he gets is unfair, and that the reason everybody showed up was the right one. Yes, the partying and the basketball perhaps weren’t necessary. But I used to be 30 years old, and when I see my friends I like to enjoy myself,”  said the German.

Many other sports personalities such as Dejan Stankovic, Nemanja Matić, Dayana Yastremska, Janko Tipsarevic and Olga Danilovic also took Novak’s side.
