The new Davis Cup didn’t have much luck. The rights of the competition were bought by the investment group Kosmos to generate a lot of controversies. Eventually, the competition was staged last year with the new formula in Madrid with Spain winning on the home soil.

This year the tennis tour has been completely devastated by the Coronavirus pandemic with all schedules messed up. There were already rumors that the Davis Cup was struggling to find its place this year with n overall lack of interest from the fans. Now the organization posts a statement that the competition has been “postponed” in 2021.

“The decision from Kosmos Tennis and the International Tennis Federation to postpone the event comes following a three-month review of the considerable logistical and regulatory challenges that have arisen as a result of the pandemic and potential hosting scenarios with the health and safety of all involved of paramount importance.
The 18 teams which have already qualified for this year’s Finals will compete at the rescheduled Finals in 2021, with the draw for the Finals remaining as published.
We are looking forward to delivering an outstanding competition in 2021, when it is safe for everyone.”

The Fed Cup had a similar fate. The finals had to be played in April in Budapest, but again they have been postponed to 2021. This was the statement.

“The International Tennis Federation has announced that the 2020 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals, which were due to be played in April this year before postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have been rescheduled for 13-18 April 2021. The Finals will be played on indoor clay courts at the Laszlo Papp Arena In Budapest, Hungary.

The 12 teams which have already qualified for this year’s Finals will compete at the rescheduled Finals in April 2021 with the draw for the Finals remaining as published.

The 2020 Fed Cup Play-offs, which were also due to take place In April 2020. will now be played in February 2021.

The draw for the Play-off ties will remain the same. The four outstanding regional events due to be played in 2020 will now be played in 2021, with dates to be announced in due course.”
