Interesting and completely unexpected semifial in Meblourne. All the tennis community was was expecting a Belarus and an American to play this semis, but no one had the idea that the American would have been Sloane Stephens.
The upcoming tennis star produced an immense upset to defeat Serena in 3 wonderful sets and now trying to go for the kill against VIka (not an easy customer…)
Azarenka’s path
Vika had an easy tournament so far to defeat Niculescu, Danilidou, Hampton, Vesnina and Kutsnetova. The world no,1 struggled only with Jamie Hampton to defeat her in 3 tense sets, for the rest she was always in good control.
Stephens’ path
Sloane won in straight sets with Halep, Mladenovic, Robson. The she won in 3 sets against Jovanosky and Serena.
Pick
These two have never played each other as Stephens is a new face. Vika will definately have an edge as she has now a very good experience at high levels and she is the favorite, but we would not write off Stephens. The teenager is now as confident as ever and she has already al the tools to upset Azarenka especially if she applies some variations that may unsettle the world no.1
