Serena and Venus Williams’ father Richard sued over movie rights

'King Richard' is expected to be a blockbuster. However, production has been slapped by a recent lawsuit

Serena Williams and Venus Williams have inspired generations all over the world for the last decades after reaching greatness coming from nowhere. It’s not a secret that their dedicated father Richard was the person behind their success. Richard has an amazing story to tell as he became arguably the best tennis coach in history without knowing anything about tennis.

Will Smith was chosen to play Richard in the movie called ‘King Richard’ which was mean to be released this coming November. However, Will Smith and Richard were sued by production companies TW3 Entertainment and Power Move Multi Media.

According to reports, TW3 Entertainment and Power Move Multi Media Inc are claiming that they were awarded the movie rights, but Richard then sold the rights to Warner Bros Entertainment that was also sued.

TW3 Entertainment and Power Move Multi Media Inc stated

“This case presents an unfortunate and tawdry situation: the cold and calculating misappropriation and interference with Plaintiffs’ intellectual property. Plaintiffs’ good faith and contractually protected efforts to bring an amazing story into visual art form were met with Defendants’ greed and disregard for Plaintiff’s existing rights.”

Let’s hope that everything will be settled and we can enjoy the movie later in the year.
