CONFIRMED. Nadal considering not defending the US Open title according to his uncle

It seems more and more plausible that Nadal will get back to competition for the clay court seasoni Europe.

Rafael Nadal didn’t seem to be too ecstatic after he learned about the measures that the US Open intends to adopt to stage the major this year. According to the world n.2, there are no conditions for him right now to play the American slam.

After the tennis schedules had to be revised, the new calendar became extremely packed. The claycourt season will be revived with the ATP1000 in Rome and Madrid to be played soon after the US Open and before the Roland Garros. Given the fact that Rafa is rather injury-prone especially when playing the US Open, it is plausible that he will skip the North American slam to be in top form for the Roland Garros.

Uncle Toni about Rafa playing 1 slam

During a recent interview, Nadal’s uncle Tonic confirmed that Rafa is not likely to play both slams (the US Open and the Roland Garros). It’s almost for granted that if Nadal needs to make a choice, he will go for the French open given his outstanding record in Paris.

During a recent interview, Toni commented as follows:

“I think Rafael can also consider choosing one [slam] just like Djokovic has said. With the US Open, Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros [to be played] in a row, I think that many players will go for one. Playing all four tournaments all at once can be a problem but it depends on each player.”

Simona Halep has already announced that she is most likely to also skip the North American stint so as to focus on the clay-court season.
