What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is an official holiday in Texas that is still unofficial in the rest of the US. It celebrates a momentum event in American history that marked the end of slavery in 1865. On the 19th of June, Union army general Gordon Granger announced the end of slavery in Texas 2 and a half years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
