The tennis organizations are doing everything they can to restart the tour. Resuming operations during this coronavirus pandemic sparks a lot of controversies as the topic is rather polarizing.
The ATP has been working hard to restart tennis and eventually they have managed to recreate a calendar for the remainder of the year. There have been various calls with the players, however many were not happy about how things have been managed. Lack of communication seems to be the key issue.
The communication from the ATP
Andrea Gaudenzi released the following statement:
“It has been a truly collaborative effort and we hope to add more events to the calendar as the situation evolves. I would like to recognize our tournaments’ efforts to operate during these challenging times, as well as our players who will be competing under different conditions.”
The reaction from Kyrgios
The Australian has been extremely critical in the last few weeks on how things have been managed as some players felt left out form the conversations. Therefore, Nick Kyrgios could not stomach Gaudenzi’s message to post a rather aggressive tweet calling him a “potato.”
“Cheers mate, you’ve really looked after the players during this time. Seriously. fk me, how about you have a collaborative effort with us, potato.”
