Serena Williams will have the chance to try again to match Margaret Court’s 24th slam record this year on the home soil. The American legend reached 4 finals after her complicated pregnancy to always lose that critical 7th match.

The Coronavirus pandemic halted the tennis tours since the beginning of March causing also the shocking cancellation of Wimbledon. There were many doubts about the opportunity for the US Open to take place this year. Eventually, USTA managed to organize the event. The tournament will not be “perfect.” For example, there will be no fans, no qualifications, no mixed doubles, not wheelchair tennis. Players will also be tested continuously and social distancing has to be observed.

The excitement of Serena

There is some discontent especially among players that have been left out by the lack of qualifications. However, many players and fans are excited for th slam to take place.

Serena released the following message.

“I can’t wait to return to New York. It’s over six months since a lot of us have played professional tennis. I will miss the crowd, but I’m excited.

I feel the USTA is going to do a really good job of ensuring everything is amazing and everything is perfect and everyone is safe. I will certainly miss the fans, don’t get me wrong”

I’ll certainly miss the fans, don’t get me wrong. Just being out there in that New York crowd and hear everyone cheer, I’ll really miss that getting me through some of those tough matches,” said Serena.
