Andy Murray has been going through a rather interesting roller-coaster during the last couple of years. The Brit has been struggling for long with a hip injury to decide to go under the knife after an emotional Australian Open back in 2019. After many were too ready to consider Andy as a thing of the past, the former world no.1 managed to stage an inspiring recovery that culminated with his title in Antwerp the following October.

Unfortunately, things went south again soon after and Andy had to skip the entire beginning of 2020 before tennis (and the world) got sidelined by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Why Murray should play the US Open

There are still some doubts about if the US Open will be staged this year. However, during a recent interview with the journalists, his friend and doubles partner Feliciano Lopez revealed that Andy would be more than happy to play the slam.

“Actually two days ago I was talking to him, and he was really pumped about the US Open.

He was starting to practice again. I asked about the hip, how it was feeling, and he was positive. He might be able to compete again. I’m crossing my fingers to see Andy playing again, of course. It would be great for everybody, especially for him.

He needs to wait a little bit to see how the hip is going to respond. But he was positive. He has started to play a little bit, and I think he’s really keen to play if the US Open is finally happening,” said the Spaniard.

Andy won the US Open back in 2012 before triumphing twice in Wimbledon (2013, 2016).
