Stefanos Tsitsipas has just started his run at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown promoted by Patrick Mouratoglou. Besides a rather bizarre match format, the UTS is unique also for the fact that players are free to express their emotions and they can have an ongoing interaction with their coaches using time-outs. This is what Stefanos is not planning to do.
Tsitsipas and coaching
Stefanos has often professed his aversion for being coached on-court.
“He [his coach] didn’t tell me much today to be honest. I have never had coaching on-court. I am personally against it. I do not like a coach interfering with my way of thinking and the depth I am entering a tennis match. Because there is a lot of mental construction. I go through a lot of things.
Sometimes my coach talks too much. He has a tendency of talking too much and things get confusing. I try to have things simplified and not too complicated,” said Tsitsipas.
This is a surprise to absolutely no-one who's followed his career but Stefanos hates on-court coaching.
