Novak Djokovic is a huge ambassador for tennis, and he didn’t fail to show once again his love for Serbia. The world no.1 has recently revealed that back in the days for the love of his country, he refused to have an easier path and become a British citizen when he didn’t yet reach stardom.

REFUSING BRITISH NATIONALITY. When Djokovic and his parents stayed loyal to Serbia

The Serbian sensation took advantage of the unfortunate halt of the tours because of the Coronavirus pandemic to organize the Adria Tour that is an event played in the Balkans. The first stop was in Novak’s Belgrade.

Why Djokovic could not hold tears

Djokovic was remarkably committed to the cause and he was extremely proud to show the beautiful Belgrade to his colleague and friends. Novak didn’t win the leg in Belgrade, but he was overwhelmed with the huge participation of the crowd (4,000 people) supporting him in the stands. Djokovic has many strong memories about being raised in Serbia and unfortunately, some of them are linked to the bombing that happened in the 90s. Djokovic has always stated that the war stayed with him and that he will never forget it, but he can forgive.

After his match against Sascha Zverev, Novak broke down in tears when he received a standing ovation.

“I was very emotional on the court today. Childhood memories started flooding back, including those of growing up on these courts and playing here as a young boy.

I was overwhelmed and those were tears of joy after the match. I try to give back to where I come from and be conscious of my childhood and my upbringing. This tennis was an epicenter of people from my childhood days getting together for this tournament, including my former coaches. They were all here,” he said.
