The topic of the moment in tennis is when and how the sport has to resume and if the US Open can be staged in 2020.

The big problem that the American slam is facing right now is that it is extremely plausible that no Big3 will compete. Roger Federer announced he had another procedure to his knee so as to be back only in 2021, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic revealed their disagreement about playing the US Open with the current measures.

Djokovic confirmed that most probably he WILL NOT PLAY the US Open

Playing or not the US Open has become an extremely polarizing issue. Generally speaking, the big fishes and the players that have no financial problems tend to be against playing. On the other side, players that are not in fantastic financial conditions tend to lean on playing.

Feliciano Lopez and the US Open

Feliciano Lopez is extremely knowledgeable about what’s going on in the tennis world. Besides being still active on court, he is also the tournament director for the Madrid Open. The Spaniard is currently playing Patric Mouratoglou’s Ultimate Tennis Showdown and talking to some journalists over Zoom; he has expressed his idea about the US Open. According to Feliciano, the major has to be staged also without the likes of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

“Speaking about myself, I will go and play. I think the US Open they know they might be many players that don’t want to go and play there. I think they know already. They are thinking about that. But I think the US Open is not depending on only the top players playing. I think there are a lot of things that will force the US Open to happen,” said Feliciano.

About Federer, Nadal, Djokovic not playing the US Open

Feliciano explained why it’s time to resume the operations even without the Big3. He also respects their decision not to play.

“Of course it will be great if they can have Roger, Rafa, Novak and all the big names. My personal opinion is that they are planning to have the event thinking that some of the top players. I don’t know how many might not play.

‘Now I don’t think it is time to think about two or three players. I think it is time to think about everybody and not only the players, but it is also the tournaments, the ATP. ‘Remember that the ATP is also struggling economically if tournaments are not happening. It is four or five months already, it is very, very long. ‘We need to start rolling I think for the benefit of everyone almost. But I respect that Roger or Rafa or Novak, they don’t want to go and play the US Open in those specific conditions. I respect it – I think this is fair also,” he added.
