I want a better future for the next generation, says Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka explains while she will be active in supporting the Black Lives Matter movement

Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka has been extraordinarily active after the death of George Floyd. The former world no.1 took on the streets and social media to vent her frustration against racism and police brutality. However, Naomi has a huge following and she had to deal also with some harsh comments. The world no.10 had a couple of tough replies and she promised (to her agent?) to be nice in the days to come. However, that doesn’t mean that she will back off from supporting the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

Naomi about being an activist

Osaka sent an email to Reuters explaining why she is so active against racism. She explained that the situation is affecting her and being silent is just not an option.

“I’m vocal because I believe in the movement and want to try to use my platform to facilitate change. George Floyd’s murder and the situation generally in America has had a big impact on me. Being silent is never the answer. Everyone should have a voice in the matter and use it,” she commented.

Then Naomi admitted that she has been struggling with the trolls on social media, but eventually she will keep on campaigning for what she believes is right.

“I probably shouldn’t read all the trolling but it’s hard to avoid. Using humor is definitely one mechanism to expose these people. Calling them out for their ignorance and racism is also worthwhile sometimes.

I’m more sad for them than myself, to be so hateful and ignorant can’t be an easy way to live life. So I’m hopeful for change, I’ll keep campaigning for change, and I demand a better future for the next generation,” she concluded.
