The murder of George Floyd has been horrific, but as an important silver lining, he sparked the renaissance of the rightful protests against racism and police brutality.

It was great to see that young tennis players such as Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and Frances Tiafoe used their platform to support the #blacklivematter cause. It was even better noticing that players not belonging to the black community have been also quite vocal.

Amanda Anisimova didn’t miss the chance to express her shock for what has been happening in the US to say: “What is going on right now is absolutely insane. I totally standby everyone who is protesting and trying to spread awareness.”

Nevertheless, on social media, the young American expressed her discontent about the idea of dismantling police departments as supported by some people. Amanda commented as follows:

“I’m sorry, but this isn’t the way to go, how is this going work?
Police brutality needs to be put to an end, but we gotta work in smarter ways. I’m sure there are other options.
I really hope this country will become a peaceful place for ALL at some point.”

Not all policemen are bad

Also, Anisimova stressed the fact that not all policemen are bad people. They job is to keep safe the community and it’s unfair to generalize against them.

“Not all police officers are bad, and I’ve seen so many disrespectful posts towards them. There should be way more thorough screenings done when employing officers. Police brutality, racism, and other things I’ve seen that have been linked to the police so often is 100% not acceptable.
It’s so sad.

But we need them, and a better system needs to be put in place, and we need to fight for it but not in a cruel way. Violence and disrespect is not the answer!
Had to get this off my chest,” she added.
