Roger Federer gave shivers to his fans when he announced in February that he had to undergo a knee operation after he played the Match for Africa with Nadal. As per Novak Djokovic’s words, it was clear that something was not 100% for Roger during the Australian Open, but it didn’t seem that the knee was the issue.
Eventually, the Swiss sensation had to go under the knife with the aim of coming back for the grass season. The former world no.1 was extremely lucky as tennis was halted during his convalescence so as not to lose any significant amount of points in the months following his operation. However, the cancellation of Wimbledon looked to be a huge blow for his ambitions to add another slam to his already huge collection.

However, talking to Swiss television SRF, Roger’s coach Severin Luthi admitted that Federer’s recovery is not going as expected.
“Federer’s recovery is not going as well as we expected. It is slower than we think. I think we will see some action again from August. We hope that will happen,” said Luthi.
When chatting with Guga Kuerten, the Swiss sensation also admitted that he has not been training during the lockdown as he couldn’t see the reason.
Will Federer play the US Open?
Tenis is trying to find a way to restart and it seems more and more plausible that the US Open will take place in August with some specific measures respecting the social distancing. Djokovic and Nadal do not seem so excited about taking part in the major at the current conditions and Roger has also commented that it would be better waiting a bit longer to have tennis back in full strengths.
