Tsitsipas and playing with no fans

During a recent interview with SDNA, the Greek ace admitted that the atmosphere created by the crowd is too important for the sport and that needs to be preserved. Stefanos is extremely knowledgeable about this concept since he has already played and won important tournaments such as the recent ATP Finals in packed arenas.

“My personal view is that it is important to have these tournaments with people and not in front of empty stands. Say you win such a big event as a Grand Slam. Without the crowd, adrenaline is not the same, the feeling is not the same,” he commented.

Stefanos is well aware that there is huge financial implications about playing a slam. Recently has emerged that the Tennis French Federation heavily rely on the income from the Roland Garros and not playing the French Open would be too damaging for the organization.

“The crowd is the one that brings energy, fills the stadiums, and creates the atmosphere we have. It could, of course, be a tournament without people, but it would not offer the same feeling, the same intensity,”  he added,

Rafael Nadal shares Tsitsipas’ view

Rafael Nadal is in complete agreement with Stefanos and Roger about the roles of fans. During a recent interview with Eurosport, the Spanish legend talked about the importance of having a full crowd attending the events. However, he also revealed that he is well-aware of the fact that he might need to adapt if the tournaments cannot have fans in the stands.

Former world no.1, Karolina Pliskova, has a different view than Federer’s. The Czech maintains that tennis needs to resume anyway saying also that it’s not abnormal to have empty stadiums in women’s tennis. Lower-ranked players are also keen to see tennis back as soon as possible as many of them are struggling with their finance.
