Rafael Nadal is trying to make sense of the actual situation. The Spanish icon admitted that he used to struggle a lot, especially at the very beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, but things are getting better for him right now.

The world no.2 is back to training after the easing of the lockdown in Mallorca. However, he still has mixed feelings about the opportunity for tennis to resume. Recently, Rafa admitted that he would be happy to play the Roland Garros only if safety is assured, and he is not 100% sure about what to do regarding the US Open.

The 19-time slams champion had an interesting call in Zoom with some journalists to discuss the current situation. He stressed the fact that he would not be comfortable playing the US Open right now, and he hopes that the organization can find a proper solution for the slam to happen.

“Well, it is not an ideal situation, honestly no. If you ask me today if I want to travel today to New York to play a tennis tournament, I will say no, I will not,” he said

“In a couple of months, I don’t know how the situation is going to improve. Hopefully, it’s going to improve the right way, and I’m sure the people who organize the event, theU.S.T.A., want a safe event, same as the French federation,” he added

“I am confident they will make the right decision in the right moment to make sure if the tournament is played it will be in safe circumstances. If not, in my opinion, it doesn’t make sense,” Nadal concluded.

It seems that there is some disconnect between the top and the lower-ranked players about resuming the tour. On one side, the top players are more concerned about the safety and playing without fans. Furthermore, they also have the luxury of not facing financial problems. On the other, lower-ranked players are more prone to take risks in order to try to adjust their finance. Furthermore, lower-ranked players are also more used to playing with not many fans on the stands.
