Pliskova disagrees with Federer

Karolina Pliskova is among the players that are starting again to play some tennis after the prolonged Coronavirus global lockdown. The official tours are not going to resume before the August and there are many talks about when and how the sport has to resume.

One of the most controversial and polarizing issues is if the tours have to start again without fans. In fact, it is accepted that from an economical point of view big events like the US Open can take place also without the fans. Of course, having spectators is essential to provide the c,orrect atmosphere but what if the decision is between staging a competition without fans or not playing at all?

Federer not happy playing without fans

Roger Federer has been a fans’ favorite for ages and t,he Swiss sensation can always rely on the strong support of spectators wherever he goes. During a recent video with Brazilian tennis legend Guga Kuerten, Roger admitted that he could not see him playing without fans in the stands. Roger also maintained that it would be better to wait a bit more and avoid playing in empty stadiums.

Some do not agree with Roger, especially lower-ranked players that are struggling from a financial point of view now that tennis has been stopped. Australian tennis player Andrew Harris is ranked no.204 and he said that the tour has to resume as soon as possible also without fans.

Former world no.1 Karolina Pliskova also thinks that the tours need to resume even without fans. During a recent interview, she maintained that it would be fine for her to play without fans. She also admitted that that happened many times for her and her colleagues on the WTA tour.

“No matter how or what the conditions, it’s better to play some matches than not play anything If you have the chance to play a prime-time match, so there’s a lot of people and the atmosphere is great, it’s much better.

But we can have matches where there is nobody, so I think it’s not that it would never happen. If you play at 1 am, there are not many people anyway.

Maybe Roger, he never experienced that, but I think me and the girls overall have had the experience of nobody attending the matches. I know for Roger for sure it has to be different thinking than for me, but I would definitely choose to play,” she commented.

Karolina has already competed in the Livescore Cup in Prague and she beat Barbora Strycova 7-5 6-1 in the opening match.
