Naomi Osaka hit the headlines a few days ago for being the highest-paid female athlete in history in a given year. Well, Naomi is much more than that. Osaka has a Japanese mother and a Haitian father and she is quite knowledgeable about racism and its implication. Naomi was rather displeased when one of her sponsors, Nissin, depicted her in a white-washed cartoon. Nissin was quick in apologizing.

The former world no.1 was shocked by George Floyd’s murder and she joined the protesters in LA to add her strong voice on social media.

“Just because it isn’t happening to you doesn’t mean it isn’t happening at all. It’s funny to me that the people who wanna wear chains, blast hip hop in the gym, attempt to get dapped up, and talk in slang are suddenly quiet right now,” she commented.

Naomi was also hoping to see more people joining her to comment as follows:

“Where’s everyone popping out today tho? Let me know”

Naomi was also not happy about the fact that some people were not heard after the killing on George Floyd to reappears when looters started their ignominious actions all over the US.

“I see people been ghost on twitter for a week when the events first started unfolding, but as soon as the looting started they sure are quick to give us hourly updates on how they’re feeling once again. When you tweet about the lootings before you tweet about the death of an unarmed black man,” she commented.

Naomi is one of the most prominent voices among pro tennis players that are addressing the recent events. It’s great to see that some other young guns such as Coco Gauff, Frances Tiafoe, and Felix Auger Aliassime are also making their voice to be heard.
