‘I will relax and enjoy’ – Tsitsipas about putting too much pressure on himself

Why Stefanos is changing idea about being too open about his aspirations

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a lot of time to reflect during this painful Coronavirus lockdown. The Greek sensation admitted that he struggled during the onset of the pandemic, but later he found his groove.

The world no.6 is currently training at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy where he has resumed his practice. Stefanos had a chat with Alizé Lim that has launched the Major Talks. Tsitsipas admitted that he used to put far too much pressure on him. He regretted to be outspoken when talking to the press after winning the ATP Finals he said that he felt quite close to winning a major.  This put a lot of pressure on himself and eventually he crashed out as early as in the 3rd round at the following Australian Open at the hands of a solid Milos Raonic.

Therefore Stefanos revealed that he wants to focus more on the present and talk less about aspirations. This is the same approach adopted by the top players, big3 included, that are used to play down their chances to win this or that tournament.

“Looking back to that I think this was too big of a statement [winning a slam] to be taken seriously. I shouldn’t be looking so far so soon.

For sure, I want it to come, but I should be talking about stuff like this less often and concentrate on the present. I guess I just put too much pressure on myself, aiming so high and I just have to take it step by step, not think too much about the future and be irrational.

I say it every single time like it’s the only thing I want to achieve in my life. For sure it is. My theory behind it is that if you think about it too much it might as well never happen, so just relax and enjoy the process,” Stefanos commented.
