Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek are 2 of the most interesting players on the WTA tour. While the Japanese sensation has already conquered a couple of slams in New York and Melbourne, at 18 years of age, the Polish player is already finding her way in the slams. However, Iga impressed last year at the French Open when she reached the 4th round before losing to Simona Help in straight sets.
Naomi and Iga are in great terms and they had a rather interesting interaction on social media.
During the conversation, the 18-year-old recalled one of the first times that she was close to Naomi and also being star-struck.
“I always thought you were very interesting, and you were playing very well and I wanted to observe was you were doing, just to be better. I remember we were stretching next to each other in Birmingham and I saw an Instagram that you posted for your dad’s birthday and I wanted to talk to you about that and tell you that it was funny, but I was too shy, so I just kept stretching,” she revealed.”
During the conversation, Iga also admitted that she doesn’t want to be “stuck” in the sport, but she would like to see more things and improve her education.
“I was to be open-minded about things and learn new stuff. I would like to develop not only in sports. It would be nice if I went to university after I finished, or maybe do online in a few years, just to know more about the world.”
Naomi had one of her funny comments. She admitted that she recalled noting that Iga was staring at her thinking that something was not right.
“I first saw you in Birmingham and I felt like you were just staring at me. I was like, ‘Why are you staring at me? Did I do something wrong?.
But in Toronto, I was like, ‘Oh, actually, she’s very nice!’, and I was surprised because I thought you hated me or something so the entire time, I was like, ‘Oh, no!’,” Naomi added.
