These are Roger Federer and Serena Williams’ challenges when tennis is back. NESTOR

At 38 years of age, both Roger Federer and Serena Williams are at the end of their extraordinary careers. While Federer is trying to defend his 20-slams record from the assault of Rafal Nadal (19 slams) and Novak Djokovic (17) slams), Serena is still trying to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 majors with 23 under her belt.

Daniel Nestor is a retired Canadian tennis star that was specialized in doubles. He won 12 slams (8 in men’s doubles and 4 in mixed), 1 gold medal at the Olympics, and 4 Tour Finals.

During a recent interview with Wion Sports, Daniel was asked to release some comments about the big3 and the actual state of tennis. The Canadian expressed his awe for the results achieved by Novak Djokovic and he thinks that the Serbian has good chances to keep on succeeding in the near future given his level of fitness. He also thinks that Djokovic is right to claim about becoming the man with the most slams under his belt and beating Federer’s record of the number of weeks at the top of the rankings (310).

“It is incredible what Novak Djokovic has accomplished over the last decade. His record against Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer is also remarkable. Novak Djokovic is also the youngest and fittest of the big three, which will work to his advantage. Nadal used to be incredibly fit, but his knees have given him some problems recently. So you can’t really doubt Novak Djokovic’s claims here.”

Nestor also expressed his concerns about Roger Federer and Serena Wiliams chances to be at their very best after the prolonged suspension of the tour will be lifted. In particular, Daniel maintains that both tennis legends may struggle especially if the first tournament to be played will be the US Open because it takes more time for older players to get in the groove.

“I think both of them [Roger and Serena] will find it tough at the US Open if it is the first tournament after the hiatus. Players, especially the older ones, need a few tournaments under their belt before the majors.”

However, this statement might be refuted by the fact that Roger Federer won the Australian Open back in 2017 after he stayed out of competitions for long because of his knee injury. Also, in that very tournament, he defeated an in-form Rafael Nadal in the final after the Spaniard was also out of competitions for injury for long.

Serena has also proved time and time again to be exceptional in staging huge comebacks after struggling.
