MOTIVATION. Tsitsipas admits that he is not putting his 100% in training

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently living and training at the well-known Mouratoglou Academy. The Greek sensation was widely expected to have a smashing 2020 after ending the last season in the best possible way following his triumph at the ATP Finals. However, Stefanos’ ambition has been halted by the Coronavirus pandemic and the world no.6 had to spend some time in Monaco and now at the Academy.

Stefanos had a series of Instagram chats and he had an interesting one with former world no.10 Barbara Schett from Eurosport. Tsitsipas admitted that he has not been putting 100% of his effort during the training sessions so far, but he is planning to step up in the future.

“I have my team with me which is important to me so I don’t lose my schedule. I am trying to stay creative and do other activities besides tennis or fitness with the space we have here. Honestly don’t think about the future. I practice every day, of course I don’t put 100% in but at the same time I’m planning on gradually getting better,” he commented.

The Stefanos admitted that he is finding the right balance between not training too hard to avoid burn-outs and doing nothing. A similar concept was highlighted by Naomi Osaka. Similarly, Roger Federer decides not to train at all until he knows when the official tour will be back.

“It’s important to understand what things have been working for you in the last couple of months and what other things you can improve and get better at. It’s a process, it’s tricky – you have so much time in front of you and you don’t know when things are going to get back to normal. Right now, I am taking it easy, I’m not pushing myself to the limit and I’m not resting and doing nothing. There is a good contrast in between the two,” he added.

As for now, Stefanos has not agreed to play any unofficial events at the Academy or elsewhere in the world. He was recently spotted training at the Academy with his good friend Felix Auger-Aliassime.
