Federer destroys Paire in the first round at the Australian Open

Great 1st round from Roger. It was interesting to see his preparation especially after his decision not to play any warm up tournament.

The Match 6-2 6-4 6-1

It took only 83 minutes for the Maestro to overwhelm the erratic frenchman. Event if Paire didn’t really offer a great opposition, Roger appeared to be really in tune and ready for a good Australian Open. Roger blasted 25 winners to win 95 points vs. Paire’s 63.

From Roger

“I’m obviously very happy with this first-round match, so total control. He can be a tricky opponent, but I guess his playing style doesn’t disturb me that much overall. I’m happy I was able to play a clean match out there today.” said Roger.

Regarding playing in the hot

The Swiss maintains that a hot condition can even give some advantage to him. “I have practised and played so many matches over the years in a lot of heat. I almost favour myself over my opponent in the heat. Obviously when you get the hot match, you try not to stay out there for too long. But then again if you have to, that’s what it is. That’s part of the game.”

2nd round vs. Davydenko.

Federer will play Davydenko in the next round and that is not an easy one for the world no.2. In fact, even if he has an astonishing 17-2 record against the Russian, Nicolay is not the player you want to encounter in a second round at the grand slam.
