Venus, Stosur, Ivanovic, Djokovic, Baghdatis to the 2nd round

A good opening day at the Melbourne Park. Sharapova and Dimitrov had a mixed day with the Russian winning with an emphatic 6-0 6-0 and the Bulgarian losing to Benneteau in straight sets.

Djokovic

Nole didn’t have any problem to defeat Mathieu in straight sets (6-2 6-4 7-5) i 1 hour and 42 minutes. The Serb blasted 9 aces and 31 winners to win a total 95 points against Mathieu’s 68.

Baghdatis

Marcus won a tough 5 setter against Albert Ramos from Spain to win 6-7 (0) 7-6 (4) 6-4 3-6 6-3 in 4 hours and 15 minutes. As usual Marcus relied on a very strong support from his local compatriots.

Venus

Venus Williams had also a comfortable start defeating Voskoboeva 6-1 6-0 in 1 hour. She seems to be back in top form, but we need to see her in a more daunting test.

Stosur

Finally Sam won a match at the Australian Open, but once again it wasn’t that easy. The Australian defeated the Taiwanese Kai Cheng-Chang (world no.86) 7-6 (3) 6-3 in 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Ivanovic

The Serbian beauty win 6-2 6-1 Melinda Czink (world no.97) in 1 hour.
