Stefanos Tsitsipas has been enjoying a fantastic career. At just 21 years of age, he has already broken in the top10 to reach a world no.5 career-high. Stefanos has also stunned last year after he won the ATP Finals following a fantastic season.
The Greek sensation has been grounded by the Coronavirus pandemic and he is currently residing and training at the prestigious Patrick Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in the South of France.
Stefanos had a rather entertaining video call with former world no.10 Barbara Schett from Eurosport. When asked about the matches that Stefanos would like to repeat, he pointed at 2 encounters he had against Rafael Nadal.
The first one was when he was blown away at the Australian Open in 2019 by the Spaniard with a telling 6-2 6-4 6-0 scoreline. That happened after he stunned Roger Federer in the 4th round.
About this match, Stefanos commented: “[I would like to repeat] the match against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open where I got chopped up. I would pick it because I was a different player then, I am more experienced now and I will carry that experience with me next time. I may not win but I will definitely put up a fight.” After that match, Stefanos appeared completely confused saying that he just didn’t know what to do.
The second match that he would have replayed was another one with Rafa and that was when he lost in straight set in Toronto final (2018) 6-2 7-64. In that encounter, after a bad start, Tsitsipas found the solution in the second set, but that was a bit late.
In the same video, Stefanos and Barbara talked about many topics and Tsitsipas’ mother Julia also intervened a couple of times. She also tried to refresh Barbara’s memory trying to remind her that she beat Julia back in the days in 3 sets.
