Stefanos Tsitsipas had a rather entertaining video-chat with former WTA top10 player Barbara Schett-Eagle when they discussed everything. During the session, the Greek sensation was extremely fast in pointing his favorite tournament: the Laver Cup!
Stefanos was invited to join Team Europe last year and he had really a lot of fun. Of course, for him, the highlights were being in the same team with the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. However, he also had the chance to find some “common ground” with his rival Sascha Zverev. The Greek and the German were not used to have a great relationship, but apparently things got better during the last edition of the Laver Cup when they spent some time together. Despite Kyrgios’ claim, it seemed as they really enjoyed hanging around in the same team.
Why Tsitsipas loves the Laver Cup
Stefanos remembered how great was to share the court with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to comment:
“I got to play doubles with both of them and it was a great experience for me. It was a dream come true for sure. As a child, I would never have dreamed the Laver Cup would ever happen, a competition between Europe and the Rest of the World. I would never think that would be possible but it happened and I got to be part of it. I got invited which was such an honour.
Playing for your country is one thing, but playing for Team Europe. If you just sit down and think about it you are among the best European tennis players. You get to be chosen as one of the top tennis players to play for your continent. That makes you feel very emotional.“
The funny moment with Nadal
Every edition of the Laver Cup has many memorable moments. Stefanos had a rather funny exchange with Rafael Nadal when they played doubles. The Spanish sensation said him that he couldn’t understand his gestures at the net as they were too complicated. He just asked him to stay more simple. The talk was hilarious.
The Laver Cup next edition
Unfortunately, this year the Laver Cup will not take place because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The competition was postponed of 1 year and it will be played in Boston (24-26th of September). Stefanos is widely expected to be part of it once again alongside Sascha Zverev, Roger Federer (he will be 40), and Rafael Nadal. Team Europe conquered all the first 3 editions.
