Dominic Thiem

Great news from the Austrian side as Dominic Thiem has agreed to play a tournament in May. The world no.3 will compete at the Generali Austrian Pro Series that will be held in the federal performance center in Südstadt from May the 25th.

The tournament is played by 16 men and 8 women and the overall prize money is 151,750 euros.

The format

On the men’s side, the 16 players will be divided into 4 groups of 4 players as follows:

Group A: Dominic Thiem, Lucas Miedler, David Pichler, Sandro Kopp

Group B: Jurij Rodionov, Jürgen Melzer, Lenny Hampel, Marko Andrejic

Group C: Dennis Novak, Sam Weissborn, Alex Erler, Lukas Neumayer

Group D: Sebastian Ofner, Phillip Oswald, Max Neuchrist, Moritz Thiem

The top 12 players will progress to the next stage of 4 groups of 3 players. Finally, the top 8 players will clash using the same format as the ATP Finals (yes… the format is quite complicated).

On the women side we have the following 2 groups:

Group A: Barbara Haas, Tamira Paszek, Mira Antonitsch, Irina Dshandshgava

Group B: Julia Grabher, Melanie Klaffner, Sinja Kraus, Elena Karner

The format is not clear, but it should be the same as the WTA Finals.
