Novak Djokovic was probably the best player of the last decade and definitely one of the best ever. The Serbian legend went through a rather tough moment back in 2018 when he had to undergo an operation to his elbow after the Australian Open. The world no.1 is notoriously against operations believing in the power of self-healing and he admitted that he cried for 3 days after the intervention feeling that he failed himself.
He retired for 10 days. JELENA
Later, things got a bit ugly after he lost in the openers in both Indian Wells and Miami. During a nice interview with Graham Bensinger, Novak’s lovely wife Jelena disclosed that Nole decided to quit after losing in Miami. Actually, she said that he was “mentally” out of the sport for 10 days.
Jelena revealed: “He said to me that he’s quitting. He lost in Miami. It was a terrible loss and then he just gather at all of us and said ‘guys I am done’ and I was like what? He said yeah.
Then he said Eduardo you can speak with my sponsors. I want to be clear with them. I don’t know if I am stopping for six months, a year, or forever. Just tell them if they feel like staying around they can. If they don’t, I’m happy. I just want to make sure everybody is okay with this.”
Later he regained the love for the sport when having fun playing with Jelena and his son Stefan.
“He took a few balls and started serving and he was like this is not feeling bad. Then we started playing a bit. After that, he was coming every single day with us to play with the kids,” she added.
Then… Nole was back… in style!
