It seems to be difficult to put Rafael Nadal and Kirsten Flipkens in the same sentence. However, something made them close many years ago.
When talking at a Dutch TV show, De Container Cup, Kirsten revealed that being born in the same year (1986) she used to be a lot around Rafa back in the days when they were juniors. Actually, things went one step further as the Belgia revealed:
“We are the same age. We grew up together. Have we ever had anything? Yeah, that’s right. When I was fourteen years old, I had a thing with Rafael. But he didn’t speak English at the time, so we couldn’t go further than hand in hand and a kiss.”
Of course, later, Rafa met Xisca, and they finally got happily married after many years being together. Nevertheless, it was nice to hear the young Rafa having a little crush while he already started winning!

Ranked world no.2, Rafael played his last match on the 29th of February when he overcame Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-2 in the final in Acapulco to win his 85th career title.
At present, this year Rafael has a 13-3 win-loss record. The Spaniard clinched 1 title in Acapulco.

Ranked no.77, Flipkens played her last match on the 24th of February when she capitulated to Dayana Yastremska 6-2 6-4 in the 1st round in Doha.
