The ATP freezes the rankings. Djokovic won’t overtake Federer in terms of weeks at the top of the rankings… for now

Federer Djokovic

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are competing for every sort of record. The Serbian sensation was well on his way to beat Roger’s incredible record of being 310 weeks at the top of the rankings. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus halted the tour and the ATP came out with a communicate stating that the rankings are frozen starting from the 16 of March until the tour is back.

Federer’s record

According to the official ATP Media Info: “The ATP has confirmed that the freeze to the FedEx ATP Rankings, effective March 16, 2020, also applies to any time-sensitive records over the suspension period of the Tour.”

This means that with Nole being at the top of the rankings for 282 weeks, he needs to wait for much more before snatching Roger’s record.

Why it’s a great decision also for Djokovic

While many may see the decision as helping Federer, this is a great way also to preserve Djokovic. In fact, Novak is in great form and he definitely has the opportunity of overtaking Federer as the man that has more weeks as world no.1 under his belt. It would not have been fair also for Nole to get such a prestigious record that would stay controversial if rankings would not have been frozen.

Novak is such a fair competitor that he definitely wants to win this record on court.
