Why Wimbledon was cancelled according to Judy Murray

The tennis world is still in shock after Wimbledon decided to cancel its 2020 edition because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Apparently, the Championship was one of the few tournaments to be insured against a pandemic and therefore it could make sense for them to cancel the competition during these strange and unpredictable times.

Judy Murray expressed her opinion about why the Championships were canceled during BBC breakfast. She revealed:

“I think one of the big challenges for Wimbledon is that it’s played on grass, which is not an artificial surface and also the further that you go on in the year or down in the calendar you have less light and of course Wimbledon has just the two covered courts. I think there is big challenges for it in terms of postponing it.

I think, you know, massive amounts of meetings going on between the representatives of the ATP and the WTA and the ITF who all control the tennis calendar but it’s a bit of a bun fight I think, people trying to get a space to be able to fulfill their event but it’s just not going to be possible for everybody.”

Judy’s son, Andy won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016.
