The US Open slams the Roland Garros for “arrogant” rescheduling

US Open

The Roland Garros caught everyone by surprise by deciding unilaterally to postpone its event in September without consulting the other stakeholders (ATP, WTA, ITF, Laver Cup organization). That was ill-received by the entire tennis community that is scrambling to work together to find suitable dates for the events. This looked to be an “arrogant” move that affected 9 events. On the ATP side, the following tournaments will be impacted: Laver Cup, Metz, St. Petersburg, Chengdu, Sofia, and Zhuhai. On the WTA side: Tokyo, Seoul, Guangzhou, and Wuhan.

The Roland Garros has been posponed because of the Coronavirus crisis. The Laver Cup cancelled?

The US Open

The organization of the US Open also announced that they might also postpone the event. However, in a rather polemic statement, the Americans said that they will consult all the stakeholders without making any decision unilaterally (like it was made by the Roland Garros). This was the communicate:

“The USTA is continuing to plan for the 2020 US Open and is not at this time implementing any changes to the schedule.
These are unprecedented times, though, and we are assessing all of our options, including the possibility of moving the tournament to a later date.
At a time when the world is coming together, we recognize that such a decision should not be made unilaterally, and therefore the USTA would only do so in full consultation with the other Grand Slam tournaments, the WTA and ATP, the ITF and our partners, including the Laver Cup.”
