Isner ignites “tone deaf” discussion about freezing the rankings after the Coronavirus outbreak

The entire planet and the tennis world are trying to make sense of the unreal situation we are facing because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Even if there are more important things to care about, John Isner expressed his legitimate and light-hearted doubts about what to do with the rankings. In fact, it’s not clear at all when the tour will be back even if there are slims hopes to have our “heroes’ back by the end of April in Estoril.

However, the break may last much longer, with many convinced that the clay-court season will be entirely wiped out and Wimbledon also in peril.

With so many events on the line, John ignited the debate on Twitter about the opportunity to freeze the rankings. It was interesting to notice that everyone had its own opinion (of course), but the prevailing sentiment is to freeze the points.

Probably the best answer was the one given by American tennis legend Brad Gilbert that proposed to freeze them to them the “obsolete” points off gradually.

This was his answer: “There should definitely be a freeze that player council and tour board figures out ASAP, until we start playing again, the points that were nearest off like IW Miami should be 1st to come off after a few tournaments back my guess.”
