Halep and Kerber will not play in Indian Wells. There are doubts about Bianca Andreescu.

Simona and Angelique are not fit to play in the desert.

Simona Halep Kerber

Bad news for the fans and the tournament in Indian Wells as Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber will not be able to compete.

Simona Halep has just completed a successful run in Dubai where she won the title, but that cost her the participation in Indian Wells. Simona was the champion back in 2015 and she released the following statement:

“I’m incredibly disappointed to have to withdraw from the 2020 BNP Paribas Open. Unfortunately, the foot injury that I picked up before Dubai is still causing me trouble and I will be unable to recover in time to travel to Indian Wells.”

Unfortunately, also Kerber will not play so as not to be able to defend her 2019 performance when she reached the final. After this defection, Angelique is projected to sink in the rankings and she will be around the 40th place. The German is struggling with her left leg, and she will be replaced by Taylor Townsend in the main draw.

This was Kerber’s statement:

“My patience is being tested these days as I’m still recovering from a left leg injury. I was hoping to be ready in time for the upcoming tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, but my medical team advised me to give it a little bit more rest. Thanks for your support! I can’t wait to be back on court soon…”

What about Bianca Andreescu

It is still not clear if the defending champion will be able to compete this year. Bianca got injured to her left knee back in October and she keeps on postponing her comeback.
